The Dead Sea is
the ideal place to relax and unwind from the pressures
of daily life. A unique combination of relaxation and
recreation facilities is available for those with specific
complaints or those suffering from hypertension, nervousness
and what is commonly known as executive disease.
There are few things more relaxing than bathing in the
warm thermo-mineral pools.
The specific weight of the water allows for easy flotation,
so that the body is in a complete state of relaxation.
Average salinity of Hammei Zohar (Zohar Hot Springs)
and Hammei Mazor (Ein Gedi Hot Springs) ranges from
12%-14%.
It is recommended that immersion
should not exceed 15-20 minutes. It is important to
rest and maintain body temperature after bathing. |

The salt concentration of the Dead Sea brine is about 34% and
the specific weight of the water is 1.2gr/l. This makes it possible
to experience the sensation of floating effortlessly on the
surface. Many of the Dead Sea hotels feature a heated indoor
pool filled with water from the Dead Sea. Bathing is recommended
for 20 minutes twice daily. Rest and drink are important after
bathing, since the body loses fluids while in the water. After
bathing, the salt residue should be rinsed off, so that it does
not dry on the skin.
Walking is a healthy, physical pastime. When walking along
the shores of the Sea of Life™ (Dead Sea), the bromine
and oxygen-rich air is inhaled. The bromine is known to have
a considerable relaxing effect on the nervous system and the
high oxygen content improves lung capacity, allowing walking
without exertion. There are interesting walks along the seafront
at Ein Bokek and along the rivulets and nature reserves at
Ein Gedi.
As reported above, respiratory patients considerably improved
their lung capacity and exercise performance at the Sea of
Life™ (Dead Sea). Due to the natural oxygen enrichment,
similar results were achieved on healthy subjects, who considerably
improved their lung and exercise performance at the Sea of
Life™ (Dead Sea). It has also been known that oxygen
saturation in the blood of normal volunteers increased significantly
at the Sea of Life™ (Dead Sea). The natural oxygen enrichment
improves functional capacity, subsequently increasing exercise
performance. A 10-minute workout at one of the hotel fitness
rooms is equivalent to 12-mintues elsewhere.
Because of the relative depletion of harmful UV rays at the
Sea of Life™ (Dead Sea), exposure to the sun can be
prolonged compared with other areas. However, caution must
be taken even when temperatures are moderate. Exposure should
be gradual, supervised and planned in accordance with the
duration of the stay.
The rich black mud stimulates blood circulation, maintains
skin moisture and eases ailing joints. Therapeutic treatment
includes covering the body in 5-10 kilos of heated mud for
a duration of 20-30 minutes. The heat is slowly conducted
to the joints and limbs, easing muscles and relaxing the body.
Treatments with heated mineral mud packs are available at
most hotels at the Sea of Life™ (Dead Sea). Some hotels
also offer a treatment with special oils durable in saline
solutions. Unheated mud is also available on some of the public
beaches at the Sea of Life™ (Dead Sea). The mud should
not be allowed to dry on the skin, but should be moistened
periodically with water from thermo-mineral pools and rinsed
off thoroughly after treatment.
A number of places at the Sea of Life™ (Dead Sea) offer
Jacuzzis filled with thermo-mineral water. Others use heated
tap water. Just a few minutes of bubbling hot water is ideal
for relaxing and relieving aching muscles.
